ADOPTION Q & A
Why might my pet not be spayed or neutered before adoption?
The first reason would be the age of your pet, as some veterinarians prefer to wait until after a puppy or kitten has reached a certain age before performing the procedure.
The second reason would be the breed of your puppy, as some veterinarians prefer to wait until after a puppy has reached a certain size before performing the procedure on some larger breeds.
If your pet is not spayed or neutered when they come home to you, we will ask that it be done as soon as your veterinarian recommends so!
Can I reserve or hold an animal?
Our goal is to get homeless pets paired with their "furever" family as quickly as possible. For that reason, animals cannot be held or reserved and adoptions are first come, first served.
Can I set up a meet & greet with my current pet?
If you are local to Houston, we would love to set up a Meet & Greet for you. We also offer Foster2Adopt Sleepovers, so you can make sure this match is one that last forever.
If you are nervous about introductions, our Community Partner, Cultivated Canine Dog Training, would love to help. They can meet with us and help to create positive first impressions all around!
Which core immunizations are included?
We vaccinate according to a pet's age and our Veterinarian's recommendations.
For dogs, we include their Rabies, DHLPP (protects against Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus) and Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccines.
For cats, we include their Rabies, FVRCP (protects against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Distemper) and Feline Leukemia vaccines.
How do I know if a specific animal is available?
We do our best to keep our PetFinder as up-to-date as possible, so if you see a pet posted it should still be available for adoption!
What will I need to provide when adopting a pet?
Before adopting a pet with Saving Pups of Texas, you will fill out our Adoption Application where we ask for information such as:
- Driver's License information
- Previous pet ownership history
- Current Veterinarian contact information
- Current housing situation
- Your family's lifestyle
